Baton Rouge is the state Capital as well as the capital of the petrochemical industry. It also is an ocean port with lots of old style mansions. The Old State Capitol, also called Louisiana Castle, houses the Louisiana Centre for political and governmental history. This 34-storey Capitol building overlooks the Mississippi River and was built in 1849 by Governor Huey P. Long, who was assassinated there and is now buried in the gardens.
